Recycling Education

Our goal is to help make recycling simple. Here are some tips to help get you started:

Remember the 5 R's of Recycling

Reduce - Start by reducing the amount of waste that comes into your home or business.

Reuse - If the item can be used again, set it aside instead of throwing it out.

Repurpose - Find creative new ways to use your item instead of disposing of it.

Repair - Consider repairing the item before replacing it.

Recycle - Place recyclable items in the blue container to give them a chance at a second life.

PETE Containers means clear or colored PETE (polyethylene terephthalate) containers with or without a CRV label. When marked for identification, it bears the number 1 in the center of the triangular recycling symbol and may also bear the letters PETE or PET.

The color is usually transparent green or clear. A PETE container usually has a small dot left from the manufacturing process, not a seam. It does not turn white when bent. Examples include soft drink and water bottles, some juice and liquor bottles, cooking oil containers, food jars, pastry jars, frozen food or other trays, clamshell packaging, and aspirin bottles.

WHAT ABOUT PLASTIC BAGS?

HERE’S THE TRUTH: Local recycling facilities can’t process plastic film, wrap, and bags. These materials get stuck in machinery and cause damage and delays in our process. The good news is, THEY ARE RECYCLABLE! Most grocery stores and major retailers have plastic bag and film drop off bins. They are usually located at the front of the store. Save these materials from the landfill by taking them with you on your next shopping trip.
